1936 NY Yankees Team Autographed Baseball w/ Gehrig & Rookie Joe DiMaggio (World Champions) (JSA)
In 1936 the NY Yankees played their first World Series without Babe Ruth and their first with Joe DiMaggio, going on to win four in a row. The 1936 World Series matched the Yankees against the New York Giants, with the Yankees winning in six games to earn their fifth championship. Carl Hubbell won Game One for the Giants, but the Yankees won Game Two at the Polo Grounds by an 18-4 count, a Series record for lopsided scoring. Joe DiMaggio made all three ninth inning outs in that game, the final a long fly that he snared and then kept running all the way up the clubhouse steps. Outfielder Jake Powell started the year with the Washington Senators before coming over in the middle of the year in a trade for Ben Chapman. In this Series, Powell would not only lead all hitters in hits (10), batting average (.455), runs (8), walks (4) and a homerun with five runs batted in, but he would also steal the Yankees only stolen base! This Reach OAL Harridge baseball has been signed in black fountain pen by 21 members of the 1936 World Champion NY Yankees. Signatures include HOFer Lou Gehrig on the sweet spot, HOFers Joe DiMaggio (rookie season), Bill Dickey, Lefty Gomez, Tony Lazzeri and Red Ruffing, George Selkirk, Red Rolfe, Joe Glenn, Johnny Broaca, Monte Pearson, Bump Hadley, Don Heffner, Jack Saltzgaver, Frankie Crosetti, Ben Chapman, Myril Hoag, Pat Malone, Walter Brown, Roy Johnson and Ted Kleinhans. Cream colored ball has a coat of shellack, signatures average a grade of 7 with the Gehrig grading an 8. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
