'Len Brownell Custom' Relief engraved vintage falling block single shot target rifle chambered in .222 Remington. The late Jim Wilkinson attributes the custom work to famed rifle maker Lenard M. Brownell(1922-1982), though no signature is present, the unique characteristics of Mr. Brownell's work are. Features a gold banded 24" tapered barrel with blued finish & no provisions for sights, installed Pecar 8x 43mm fixed power scope with engraved rings & bases, French greyed receiver hand engraved with pine cone & needle motif surrounding relief cut games scenes on the flats including a jack rabbit on the left side and rock chuck on the right, smooth gold single set trigger, knurled hammer spur, curved finger lever, and stunning quilted maple stock set with ribboned multi-point pattern skip-line checkering, featuring a slant rosewood capped semi-beavertail forend & pistol grip shoulder stock with right handed floating cheekpiece, engraved metal pistol grip cap & knurled Niedner style steel buttplate. The barrel has a target crown with single gold band and beaded borded near the muzzle and is stamped "APEX" over the chamber on the right side. Includes a ring tag with a hand written note from Mr. Wilkinson that reads "Len Brownell Winchester Hi-Wall Engraved Brownell Custom Rifle - 222 Rem. Cal." Rifle exhibits approximately 98% of its blued finish showing a couple small scratches on the barrel with a minute amount of pin prick pitting observed on the right side under the scope. The receiver shows no visible wear but the rear stock screw shows some light damage. Action is very smooth, the bore is pristine, optics are excellent with clear glass & crosshair reticle and the custom stock set is fine.
