The space between the graph and the rim is partly solid and partly air if we allow us to think of the existence of an imaginary rim. The space between the graph and the foot of the bowl is applewood. The space between each change of the derivate indicates a time period with impact of the crude oil price. The space between the beginning and of the graph is a transformation of approximately 20 years to a wall of bowl. The bowl itself is mainly an enclosure of a tiny piece of the space between the top and bottom. A few tiny holes (right at the beginning of the sewn part of the graph) in the piece of apple wood was the initial inspiration to holes drilled to find oil. A Google search of the crude oil price variation over time generated a useful graph that I sew and cut. The inside of the bowl is treated with oil with a small addition of a black pigment to lead the thoughts towards oil.

As always, the finished artifact is a piece of me: the engineer and artist coexisting and working together in the woodshop. The piece of wood grew in a neighbor's garden. I have been looking at this piece for some time, as I do with most of my turnings before I allow them to leave and find a home with new admirers.
