U.S. Model 1803 flintlock rifle by Harper’s Ferry Arsenal dated 1817, in .54 caliber with a 36” barrel and open sights on the rear of the barrel, which is correct on the later production (See Flayderman’s 9A-114).Original flintlock configuration with correct hammer, frizzen and parts. Full eagle with U.S. and good arsenal marks and date. The stock has been lightly refreshed with traces of original browning on the barrel and somewood loss around the tang and lock. Light to moderate pitting at the breech and firing areas. Correct rod and an extra old rod that is over length and has always been with this rifle. The rifle has been bored out to .58caliber and is rifled, possibly arsenal, as it was period done, possibly during the Civil War. No markings visible on the breech, on the left side.
