Springfield Model 1855 rifled musket with a Maynard type primer style device dated 1858. Iron mounts with brass fore end cap. The .58 caliber percussion musket has a 40” round barrel secured by three bands, with a longrange rear sight. Good eagle and lock markings, the metal shows some light to moderate erosion and some heavier pitting at the breech behind the nipple from firing. The stock is fair to good with minor lossesalong the ramrod channel and cracks beneath the lock plate screw. The butt plate is rusty, the lock works well and the nipple has been replaced, with the ramrod included. The John Brown era musket has been bored outto smooth and the muzzle is pitted.
