Spandau Gewehr 88 8mm SN: 4705a
'Commission Rifle' Antique German military en-bloc clip fed bolt action service rifle chambered in 7.92x57mm Mauser, manufactured at the Spandau arsenal circa 1895. Originally this rifle was chambered for round nose 8mm Mauser cartridge but was later rechambered for the spitzer cartridge following its adoption in 1903. Features a blued & in-the-white finish, 29" barrel with tubular metal shroud, dovetailed inverted 'v' front sight, flip-up ladder rear sight graduated to 2,050 meters, two barrel bands with bayonet lug on the front band, straight bolt handle, manual two-position flag safety on the rear of the bolt, and full-length smooth wood straight grip shoulder stock with smooth metal buttplate. The rifle is missing the sear and trigger assemblies. Matching serial numbers are found on the barrel, receiver, bolt handle, bolt hood, safety, cocking piece, bottom metal and stock. The majority of the metal surfaces display an aged brown patina with some thinned bluing on the barrel. Action is non-functional with the missing parts, the bore is good with some pitting and the wood stock is near good with blemishes & a 1” crack in the right side of the wrist. Condition is for parts or repair. ***Antique Firearm***
