This is an original circa 1940-1950's Southern Plains Native American Indian German silver, copper and brass clothing gorget ornament from the renowned Sundog Bruce VanLandingham collection. The piece exhibits a classic traditional Southern Plains gorget patterning and is constructed in silver (German silver, otherwise known as nickel silver) wit overlays of copper and brass, showing overlay, roll engraving, stamping and an overlaid repousse spots. The back is stamped "RI" and two necklace attachments. The front shows a peyote waterbird overlaid done in copper and hanging below a brass cross. The piece comes with an original Sundog Gallery tag which confirms the above info (Gorget Southern Plains Clothing Ornament Mid 20th Century / German Silver, Copper & Brass $2,500) and has a price of $2,500. An uncommon and beautiful piece in well kept condition. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery. Good overall condition with expected wear from age. Measures overall 7” x 5 7/8”.
