Revolver, Double-action. 6-rd cylinder. Brazilian Contact revolver. 25,000 Model 1917's were made for the Brazilian government and stamped with the Brazilian crest on the side plate bearing the date 1917. This revolver is in the serial number range of the first shipment in 1938. A large quantity were imported back to the U.S. in 1990, but there is no visible import marks on this revolver. Small S&W trademark is found on the left side of the frame, and "Made in USA" on the right. "S&W. D.A. 45" on left side of barrel. S&W address, and patent dates on top of the barrel. Brazilian crest is clear. Lanyard ring attached. Built on a square butt N frame. 5 1/2" round barrel with 1/10" round front sight blade. Notch cut rear sight. takes half-moon clips. Pinned barrel. Serrated trigger. Blued metal finish, with case-hardened trigger, and hammer. Action is crisp/tight. Bore is rough, with some rust present. Cylinder chambers are good, but dirty. Blued metal finish is about 80%, with holster wear/loss. Drag lines on the cylinder. Scratches/rubs present. Grips are good, but a little worn. There is small chip on the lower left grip.
