revolver, Double-action. 6-rd cylinder. Brazilian Contract revolver. 25,000 Model 1917's were made by S&W for the Brazilian Government. This revolver has the Brazilian crest stamped on the sideplates, bearing the date 1937. This gun was shipped in the first batch in 1938. A small S&W trademark is found on frames left side, and "Made in USA", is found on the right. Lanyard ring attached. A large quantity were imported back to the U.S. in 1990. Century Arms Import marked on underside of barrel. Built on a square butt N frame.5 1/2" round barrel. 1/10" forged round front sight blade. Notch cut rear sight. Uses half-moon clips. Pinned barrel. Serrated trigger. S&W. address, patent dates on top of the barrel. "S&W D.A. 45" on left side of barrel. "Smith & Wesson on right side of barrel. Checkered walnut grips, with S&W monograms. matching serial numbers. Blued metal finish, with case-hardened hammer, and trigger. Action is smooth/tight. bore, and cylinder chambers appear very good/bright, but dirty. Blued metal finish is about 70% with scattered finish loss from handling. Scratches /rubs. There is a small area of pitting/corrosion on the right side of the barrel. Grips are good, but a little worn. NRA Condition-Very Good. Modern Firearm. C&R Eligible.
