Shirley Temple I'll Be Seeing You Promo Hand-Fan
Shirley Temple I'll Be Seeing You Promo Hand-Fan - When director-producer Stanley Kramer was researching his classic masterpiece "Inherit The Wind", about the 1925 Scopes Trail in the South, which was based on the actual transcripts of the infamous "Monkey Trial", he went over copious photographs taken during the event. It took place in the summer, and one image that really struck him was seeing all the participants, reporters and spectators in their suits and heavy dresses, all trying to keep cool with over-sized hand-fans. What made these fans so macabre, was that they were supplied by a local funeral parlor, and their name and logo stood out against the circus atmosphere of the trial. In fact, he incorporated these fans into his own production, even including the funeral parlor sponsorship. Commercial hand-fans were all the rage for years, and the movie industry became its biggest sponsor. Each tried to out due each other with larger and more beautifully displays. To offset the cost, they would usually co-sponsor the fans with pictures of their stars, the name of the film, and another product that the star was promoting. This is a magnificent and extremely rare and beautifully preserved example. It shows a brilliantly colored image of the blossoming 16 year old Shirley Temple, who was making the transition from child super-star to young teen heartthrob. She is holding up a bottle of Royal Crown Cola (known better in the South simply as "RC"), while also promoting her part as Ginger Rogers' sister in the extremely controversial 1944 movie "I'll Be Seeing You". This fan not only has great value because of its virtual mint condition and rarity, but for the movie itself, which was one of the very first "war themed" films that talked openly about soldiers returning home with PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder). Made even more intriguing is that it's the "love story" between this solider (played by Joseph Cotton), and Ginger Rogers who is on a special Christmas Furlough from prison! And of course having lost the legendary Shirley Temple this year makes it extremely collectable. One side of this amazing movie fan memorabilia has Shirley Temple with the RC, and the other has a straight ad for Royal Crown Cola, with of course a pitch to "Buy War Bonds". Fan with handle is 12"x8".
