Original Cast Iron Coin Bank Building, circa 1900
Offered in this lot is an Original Cast Iron Coin Bank Building, circa 1900-1910. Popular items in offices and houses just after the turn of the XIX century, these were very durable cast iron produced in the early part of the 20th century. It is not marked but this style was made by A.C. Williams. The company started metal casting in Ohio in 1844. Like the other famous cast iron companies of the time (Hubley, Dent, Kilgore, Arcade, Kenton), A.C. Williams manufactured cast iron cars and trucks. From 1893 to 1923 they produced cast-iron horse-drawn rigs, autos, airplane, penny banks and tractor toys; the line included mostly miniatures distributed through Woolworth, Kresge's, and other five-and-dime stores. This is an all original cast iron coin bank of a tall domed building. The coin slot is on top. It is mostly silver in color, with some remnants of a brass/gold colour evident on the roof and doors. The word, BANK, is embossed at the top of the sides that show doors at the base.
The cast iron bank is in good overall condition, some of the original colouring has been scuffed off but the majority is intact, no other marring noted. Measures 5.5"H x 2.5"W x 2.5"D approximately.
