Included in this lot is a resin cast Saber Tooth tiger taxidermy skull. Although commonly known as the saber-toothed tiger, it was not closely related to the tiger or other modern cats. This species lived in the Americas during the Pleistocene epoch about 10,000 years ago. The genus was named in 1842 with the generic name meaning "scalpel" or "two-edged knife" combined with "tooth". The Saber Tooth skull has been resin cast in a professional museum quality manner. The lower jaw bone is attached to the upper skull with a cooper wire. The entire skull displays on a thick pine plaque. The teeth on this Sabre Tooth tiger skull measure 7 ½” long and 1 ¾” thick. The skull overall measures 17” x 13 ¼” x 8 ¼” and features a small plaque above the upper teeth dated 1983. Four of the lower teeth are broken.
