Civil War carbine used by US Cavalry, manufactured circa 1863 to 1865. Approx 20,000 of the "second model" were made. Features 20" barrel with octagonal breech section, no forend, blade front sight, folding leaf rear sight with 3 elevation settings, finger lever opening, external hammer, percussion ignition with cap nipple (no tape primer in the second model), wood butt with steel buttplate, saddle ring. Bore is good condition, bright with light pitting throughout, visible rifling. Metal surfaces are a light brownish gray color, fairly uniform with some variation in color and some darker areas, many areas of light pinprick pitting around breech. Most screw heads have marred slots. Wood is fair condition, dark spots throughout, erosion and loss of wood at receiver and buttplate (especially at toe). Markings are thin, often obscured by pitting. Condition is NRA Good *** Antique Firearm ***
