Lakota Sioux Fully Beaded & Quillworked Pipe Bag
The lot features a fully beaded Indian tanned hide long pipe bag adorned with beadwork and quillwork like fringe from the Lakota Sioux Native American Indians. The bag shows an Indian tanned hide construction which shows a long traditional pipe bag tobacco bag design which is artfully adorned with patriotic Reservation period geometric and effigy beadwork. The beadwork is all glass trade seed beads showing a chalk white background with geometric patterns in greasy green, greasy yellow, cobalt, red and medium green along with patriotic US flags in red, cobalt (blue) and chalk white. The beadwork is shown fully covering both sides of the main body with the tapering neck being adorned at the base with a unique diamond like pattern and in a strip down each side which connects the base beadwork with the fully fancy beaded top edge of the bag. The bag also shows wide parfleche lined fringe below the beadwork which is wrapped in dyed and waxed thread made to imitate porcupine quillwork showing a red, blue and yellow stepped diamond pattern. At the base of the quillwork imitation shows Indian tanned thin hand cut long fringe, a truly artistic and fantastic addition. The bag shows a wide bifurcated Indian tanned hide strap or tie off at the top on one side. The bag shows very good condition with little to no bead loss.
