As humans we conceptualize time as a continuum or the space between the past and future. This carved and turned piece portrays an early hominid contemplating creation and a contemporary human grokking his own demise. We imagine that time is real and forget that we live only in the present, which is so minuscule it cannot be measured.

Jim Christiansen has been a full time woodturner since 1992. His work has been shown in national and international exhibitions and has been featured in a number of books and publications. A major emphasis in his designs is to communicate “feelings”. He has authored one woodturning book and several articles on design and critique. He believes that mentoring is a topic that should be embraced by more turners.
