"The Wild Breed" by Covelle depicting a longhorn steer. Signed on base. Measures 4"l x 5 1/2"h x 2 1/4"w on wood base with brass title plate. Born in Bremond, Texas and reared in Stephenville, Texas, Covelle Jones attended Tarleton State University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree and Masters in Education. Covelle’s honors are many. One of his bronzes stands in the White House while another is exhibited in the Alamo. From 1984-85, the Texas State Legislature named him the Official Texas State Artist of the Year. The Dallas Chapter also inducted him into the National Football League alumni. An honorary life member of the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame, Covelle has won numerous awards from hall exhibitions, including best of show, gold medal sculptures, and silver medal sculptures. Covelle has been featured in Artists of the American West, Southwest Art, Art Voice, Something About Granbury, Art Gallery, Contemporary Western Artist, and Zane Gray’s West. PM Magazine, PBS television, and Cable Syndicated television have also spotlighted the TRLEA artist. His bronzes have appeared on numerous publication covers and telephone directories in Texas.
