Featured in this lot we have an Enfield pattern 1853 smoothbored percussion cap rifle-musket chambered in 68 gauge. The rifle displays a 39" long round barrel, lock plate, percussion cap hammer, brass trigger guard, canvas shoulder strap, and walnut stock. The barrel shows a bright nickel finish with some rust and pitting along the exterior. The lock plate displays a faded crown stamp and is marked "1861 Enfield" with some rust and pitting. Both the American Springfield Model 1861 and the British Pattern 1853 Enfield rifled muskets, the most common weapons used during the American Civil War, used the Minié ball. This rifle shows good condition for its age. The brass butt plate is marked across the top reading "WTE 29". This rifle shows good mechanical condition with a tight action and working hammer. The stock of the rifle shows a medallion stamp reading "R M ENFIELD" with a crown insignia at the top. No Serial Number. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
