Dubiel Arms Custom Mauser .280 Dubiel #723
Custom bolt action sporting rifle chambered in .280 Dubiel Magnum, built utilizing a Mauser square bridge magnum action circa 1937. John Dubiel is considered by many to be the finest gunsmith of the pre-WWII era. He began working at the Hoffman Arms company in Cleveland in 1923, developing his skill with both stocks and barrels. In 1932, he opened his own shop at the former site of the Hoffman Arms Co. in Ardmore, Oklahoma, he performed work there until his death in 1937. John's customers read like a who's who of pre-war shooting personalities, to include: Elmer Keith, Charles Atkins Sr., and General James H. Jimmy Doolittle, USAF. Configuration: blued finish, 26" tapered barrel with quarter rib fitted with triple drop leaf express sights, ramped & hooded blade front sight with brass bead, Mauser single square bridge magnum action with dovetailed flip-up aperture sight, knurled trigger, three-position safety, polished bolt with bent handle, internal box magazine with hinged floorplate, swivel studs, and lightly figured Circassian walnut pistol grip shoulder stock with hand cut multi-point checkering, ebony forend tip, steel grip cap, beaded right handed pancake cheekpiece & red rubber recoil pad marked "44". The action is serialized 94015. Includes a copy of the November 1934 issue of The American Rifleman with the article "The .280 Dubiel Magnum" by Elmer Keith. Also includes a typed and hand signed letter from a former owner of the rifle stating "My .280 Dubiel Magnum was built by John Dubiel in his Armore, Oklahoma plant in 1937 and was purchased from Mrs Dubiel at the time of John's death." Rifle exhibits approximately 95% of its original blued finish showing scattered thinning and some edge wear & scratches on the floorplate/trigger guard. Action is smooth, the bore is very good, markings are crisp, and the wood stock is fine. Condition is NRA Fine. ***C&R Firearm*** [From the Jim Wilkinson Rifle Ranch Collection]
