Crow Fully Beaded Signal Mirror Belt Pouch 19th C.
The lot features a wonderful harness leather, Indian tanned hide and beaded belt pouch for a signal mirror from the Crow Apsaalooke Absaroka Native American Indians of Montana. This 19th Century piece shows a harness saddle leather structure with Indian tanned hide being trade thread sewn with Indian tanned hide pocket and the front covered in all period correct glass trade seed beads. The beadwork shows a greasy sky-blue background with red center. The back shows an Indian tanned hide belt loop. The signal mirror would have been worn by scouts who would camp out waiting for oncoming opponents and would signal back to his tribe warning of their trespass. The piece shows some slight bead loss and repair from 1800’s honest use, but overall displays very well. Measures when closed 2.75”x3” when open 6”x2.75”.
