Colt New Service revolver, .45 Colt caliber, Serial #23. The pistol is in fine to nearly excellent overall condition with a 5 ½” barrel. The pistol retains approximately 95% of its original factory blue with lightmuzzle wear and a drag line on the cylinder. The trigger, exterior screw heads and back of the hammer show bright nitre blue finish, while the Rampant Colt New Service emblem is clear and crisp on the left side of theframe. The checkered Colt hard rubber grips are in very good condition with small mars from handling and the lanyard ring is intact in the butt. The bore is very good, the action crisp and markings are sharp on thisNew Service, manufactured during the first week of production in the fall of 1898, making this two-digit serial number pistol an antique. According to the consignor’s notes, the pistol came from the Colt factorycollection and is unfired. It would be difficult, if not impossible to improve on this specimen, from the Gil Newton Collection. Est.: $4,000-$8,000. (C+R).
