Rare and original confederate percussion revolver known as the Augusta Machine Works Colt 1851 style in .36 caliber, S/N 37 with period silver star and moon inlays and plaque engraved in script initials “J.F.C.”. Among the rarest of all confederate Civil War revolver with estimates of 100 being produced and about 20 known to collectors. Serial number 24 is inscribed “H. Canning” and carried aboard C.S.S. Shenandoah is the best known example along with another showing only cryptic “J” marking which has provenance to 1947 and pictured extensively in Bill Gary’s book on confederate revolver pages 46-48. Recently discovered in Northern California and possibly carried west after the Civil War. This subject revolver remains in very good original condition with smooth brown patina finish, minor light pitting and erosion. The straps have a taffy patina that is uncleaned and have right color found on C.S. brass. The grips are very good plus with minor nicks and scratches. The silver inlays are period with silver pins.
