HOFer Larry Doby doesn't get the recognition he deserves. He played his first game in the majors just 11 weeks after Jackie Robinson, breaking the color barrier in the American League. Their career numbers are similar, and both won a World Series. Despite this fact, Robinson's place in history seems far more elevated than Doby's. Also there is the likelihood that in 1947 Ohio was less open to integration than New York was, and therefore a harder place to break the racial barrier. Doby's road was equally, if not more difficult, than Robinson's. This classic and underrated card is from the colorful 1952 Bowman set, and is graded a clean 4 VG-EX by CGC.
