18th century silver mounted with carved pearl grip hunting sword, probably French with an engraved sun on the blade and an original silver mounted scabbard. The sword is 25 ¼” in overall length with a 20” blade. Theblade shows some pitting, erosion and a dark uncleaned patina. The grip is very well preserved as is the wire wrapping and thin sheet silver guard. The scabbard is very good for its age with minor losses and normal aging. There are some dents to the throat and tip. A very small silver proof is visible on the guard and on the center hanger of the scabbard but is not decipherable. From the era of Louis the “Sun King”.
