18th century flintlock horseman’s size pistol signed L. Valet on the lock (possibly Laurent Valet of Dunkirk, France circa about 1750). The pistol measures 21” in overall length with a 14” barrel of .60+ calibersmoothbore. The overall condition is very good plus showing original fire blue on the barrel and gold gilt on the brass lock and mounts, pierced side plates with a grotesque mask butt cap. An original flintlock withall correct parts. The stock is good to very good with minor losses and imperfections. The stock also shows top quality carving and molding around the mounts, a brass tipped correct style rod. An impressive pistol from Northern France that could have travelled to America during the French and Indian War or U.S. Revolution. Est.: $2,500-$5,000.
