This is an excellent example of a late production Model 1884 Rifle manufactured in 1889, with Buffington rear sight and blade front sight with square base which doubles as a bayonet lug. The barrel, hammer, lock, trigger guard and buttplate are blue. The eagle/ shield motif is marked ahead of the hammer followed by "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD". The top of the breechblock is marked: "US / Model / 1884". The left side of the barrel is stamped with the "V, P, Eagle head and P" proof and inspection marks. The top of the barrel at the breech is marked with the letter "A" and the left side at the breech is marked with a small letter "R". Three click hammer tumbler, two piece trigger guard, grooved trigger, sling and stacking swivels, iron ramrod with swollen shaft and button head, and crisp "SWP / 1889" cartouche on the left stock wrist, and a "N" and circled "P" behind the lower tang. The buttplate tang is marked with a small "C" and non-armory "U.S". Complete with a leather sling.

The buttplate retains 90% original blue with wear on the heel. The breech block and tang retain 95% original case colors with some light fading to gray on the upper surface. The stock is also excellent with a few overall minor storage dings and scratches. The sling is good showing sign of use with minimal age cracking and the leather remains supple.
