Offered for public sale is a U.S. Springfield Model 1884 .45-70 Cavalry Carbine. This is a fine early carbine with all the correct features including sling ring bar, trap in butt plate for cleaning rods, “C” marked carbine rear sight with slotless screws. A true original U.S. issued carbine made for the Indian Wars, uncleaned beautifully aged metal has a smooth dark aged blue exterior and shows no evidence of rust or abuse, correct “U.S. MODEL 1884” marked breech block, clear “U.S. Springfield” marked lock plate with eagle motif, correct carbine stock with light inspection cartouche on the left side, all correct barrel “VP” over “eagle head” proof marks, even retains bluing on the trigger guard. Excellent mechanics and bright rifled bore, overall a very fine Indian Wars cavalry Trapdoor carbine. This is the standard model that was used in every major engagement from the Battle of the Rosebud and Battle of the Little Bighorn to Wounded Knee.
