The barrel is entirely brown patina with lightsurface rust. The lock does not appear to be marked and has gone to dark patina. The smooth wood stock shows significant wear with the barrel loose in its channel. The trigger guard assembly is missing, but thetrigger is intact, while the pistol butt is brass which has toned nicely. The type of pistol used in California during the expansion of the missions, the pistol was formerly displayed at the Mission San JuanCapistrano museum until the 1980’s. The consignor notes indicate the barrel is dated 1785. A nice piece with early California history from the Gil Newton Collection. Est.: $500-$1,000. (Antique).
