Smith and Wesson Model 38-44 Outdoorsman 3rd Model revolver, .38 S&W Special caliber, Serial #S-78716. The pistol is in nearly excellent condition with a 6 1/2” barrel with full-length rib and adjustable rear sight.The pistol retains approximately 98% of its blue finish with light wear at the muzzle and a faint drag line on the cylinder. The hammer and trigger display beautiful, vivid case hardening. The medallion wood grips are in very good condition showing only light handling marks. The bore is very good, the action crisp and markings are sharp. The pistol retains its matching gold S&W box with all associated packing material. The lotfurther includes a Smith and Wesson factory letter confirming the features as described and indicating the pistol was shipped to the George Cake Co., Berkeley, CA, on March 29, 1951. When model numbers were assigned, this revolver was given the designation of Model 23. From the Estate of Larry Gaertner. Est.: $900-$1,800. (C+R)
