This is an excellently beaded knife sheath from the Santee Sioux Native American Indians of Nebraska and dates to circa 1890's. The piece shows an Indian tanned Bison Buffalo hide with early calico patterned upholstery inner lining and beaded design. The sheath most likely was crafted for use with a fighting dag knife and would have been worn around the ankle, belt, or neck. The piece shows a unique geometric pictorial design with a sinew sewn construction and early petit glass trade seed beads in medium green, sky padre blue, semi-transparent dark blue and faceted brass and iron beads with a fancy beaded top edge in Cheyenne pink. The piece shows hand cut Indian tanned hide fringe at the bast with nine rolled tin jingle cone fringe with red ocher mineral dyed Buffalo Bison hair / fur. The piece shows the correct age and patina of its early authentic age. Provenance: From a historic Native American artifact and weapons collection in Clearmont, Wyoming. The piece comes with a Historic Artifact Information sheet, similar to a Certificate of Authenticity, that is signed and sealed. The certificate is from Jeb Taylor and Plains Indian Artifacts, the renowned artifact collector and authenticator. Measures overall with strap and fringe 13.5"L x 2.75"W.
