The lot features an original and very scarce E. Remington & Sons Smoot New Model No. 2 Revolver. Approximately only 3,000 of these were ever manufactured from circa 1877-1885 with references indicated that only 1,400 were manufactured in this caliber and this being a very early example with a serial number of 526. The revolver was chambered in a .32 Rimfire Short caliber and shows a 2 ¾ inch octagon barrel with spur trigger, non-stepped ejector rod, and original hard rubber grips having checkering. The firearm pre-dates the purchase of the Remington Family Owned E. Remington & Sons company to Marcellus Harley of Hartley and Graham of New York City, a major sporting goods chain who also owned the Union Metallic Cartridge Company and the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The revolver shows the original factory Nickel Plated finish being in a very good overall appearance with spots of peppery oxidation, but overall a very fine example for its age. Cylinder timing appears to be off. Marked “E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILLION, N.Y. PATENTED W.S. SMOOT OCT. 21, 1873.” This is a single shot revolver with 5 shot rotating cylinder and fixed sights. Antique Firearm, Pre-1898 requires NO FFL.
