Rare Winchester Model 1895 Caliber .405 W.C.F. Lever Action Rifle with Stainless Steel Barrel
This exceptionally rare stainless steel barreled Winchester Model 1895 Sporting Rifle was manufactured in 1929 and chambered for the potent .405 W.C.F. cartridge. The stainless steel barrel has the original, distinctive black "Japan" finish. The balance of the rifle has blue finish. The stock and forearm are varnished walnut. The stock has a crescent steel buttplate and the forearm tip has an ebony inlay. The Redfield front sight has an ivory bead. A factory blank is fitted in the rear sight dovetail and a windage adjustable Lyman WR-WT rear sight with folding aperture is mounted on the left side of the receiver. The left side of the barrel is roll stamped: "-STAINLESS STEEL - 405 W.C.F." in one line between the rear sight dovetail and the receiver. The top of the receiver has a matted finish and Winchester oval "W/P" proofmarks are stamped on the top of the barrel and receiver. The elongated, two-line, Winchester legend and patent dates are roll-stamped on the left side of the receiver. "MODEL 95/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK REG.U.S.PAT.OFF & FGN." is roll stamped in three lines on the upper receiver tang and the serial number "422750" is stamped on the lower tang. A stainless steel barrel is one of the rarest features found on any model of Winchester rifle. A Model 1895 Rifle with a stainless steel barrel chambered for the desirable 405 W.C.F. cartridge is an extremely rare combination.

Condition: Excellent. The barrel retains about 80% of the distinctive black "Japan" finish. The receiver, magazine and lever have 85% of the original blue finish with handling wear concentrated on the right side of the receiver and the bottom of the magazine. The buttplate has a silver gray patina. All of the markings are crisp. The bore is bright. The stock and forearm are in excellent condition with about 85% of the original varnish finish and light to moderate handling wear. This is an excellent example of a rare Winchester Model 1895 .405 W.C.F. Sporting Rifle with extremely rare factory stainless steel barrel. Writer cannot recall ever seeing another one of these!
