Offered for your bidding pleasure is a RARE Civil War Savage Revolving Firearms Company .36 Caliber Navy Model Percussion Revolver. This is a government contract revolver for issue to both the Union army and navy with only approx 20,000 manufactured. This highly successful, although limited production, revolver is unusual in its mechanical function. The ring in the heart shape trigger guard pulls to the rear cocking the weapon and only then is the trigger pulled to release the hammer and fire the six shot revolver. While this takes place, the cylinder actually retracts, revolves and then moves forward into the barrel for a tight gas seal. This massive firearm has a 7 1/8” octagon barrel with attached loading lever and long 2 1/8” long cylinder which will hold a very heavy charge of powder. Matching very low number #33 on major parts. All original including the walnut grips, exc. mechanically with all parts functioning correctly, attractive aged metal shows obvious Civil War use with no signs of abuse, cleaning or repairs. one screw looks to be missing. Many of these robust arms saw service in the Western Frontier after the war. Markings on the frame above the cylinder are “SAVAGE R.F.A. Co/H.S. NORTH PATENTED JUNE 17, 1856/JAN. 18, 1859, MAY 15, 1860.” This revolver was manufactured in 1861. Antique firearm. NO FFL transfer or NICS background check required. The serial number is 33
