Available for public purchase is this immensely rare and authentic Plains Native American Indian pipe tomahawk dating to circa 1875-1885. The pipe tomahawk shows a cast brass head with lathe turned bowl having an exquisite filed artful design. The tomahawk shows an original Indian carved solid Ash wood haft with various file burnished accents along the entire surface. The end of the ash wood haft shows two early drilled spots with a drop of early brass trade bells and red, yellow, and green trade ribbons tied to an strand of Indian tanned hide. The tomahawk head shows a mellow patina with some dark spots and appears to be of the correct wear and signs of use for its early age. The tomahawk eye hole shows a later added replacement gasket if Indian tanned hide. Overall in fine original condition and is truly a museum quality piece. Provenance: Purchased from the renowned estate of Jerry Lee and from a large private Historic Native American artifact and weapons collection in Clearmont, Wyoming and comes with a Historic Artifact Information sheet, similar to a Certificate of Authenticity. The certificate is from Jeb Taylor and Plains Indian Artifacts, the renowned artifact collector and authenticator. The Historic Artifact Information sheet is signed a sealed. Measures 7.5" x 21.75". This piece was previously valued at over $7,000 and is truly one of the finer pieces in the sale. Similar Brass head pipe tomahawks have sold over the years including the Tomahawk from the 6/22/2016 Brian Lebel's Old West Show & Auction that sold for $6,655, the Kiowa Tomahawk from the 8/3/2008 Livingston's Auction that sold for $5,750, and the Prairie Tomahawk sold at the 2/11/2013 Skinner Auction for $8,610 (all shown with premiums).
