Outstanding Scottish MacLeod Marked All Steel Flintlock Pistol with Extensive Etched Decoration
The barrel is stamped with a pair of crown over scepter proofs, with a flared octagonal muzzle and a notch rear sight. The ramshorn style butt has two curved 3/4 semi circles with a decorated dome. Lock plate is marked "Mac-Leod" below the flashpan, with scroll engraving on the lock, border designs on the frizzen and floral engraving on the hammer and screws. Both the barrel and stock are etched with designs of Scottish thistles, along with an array of arms on the underside of the stock and the family crest of J. Aird etched on the wrist behind the rear sight, featuring a standing lion on a field of stars, set on a shield. Stock is fitted with a metal ramrod, a belt hook along the left side, ball trigger and a flared rams horn butt with a screw-in touchhole cleanout pin and "J. Aird", who was the original owner, signed on the left side.

Condition: Good, with a smooth bright satin gray patina overall, showing a few small areas of brown, handling marks and scattered pitting overall. A few small cracks are visible on the stock. Etching is very good, showing a few faint areas. Mechanically excellent. A very nice highly decorated Scottish all steel pistol.
