This is a RARE original John L. Clarke bronze sculpture from East Glacier Park, Montana titled "Glacier Park Grizzly". Clarke was born to a Scottish/Blackfeet father and a mother who was the daughter of a Blackfeet chief in 1881. An illness of Scarlet Fever left him deaf and mute since the age of two. Later in life, he worked out of his studio in East Glacier Park where he would create his carvings, sculptures and paintings. This is a wonderful bronze sculpture done by Clarke showing a standing grizzly bear. The bronze shows incredibly fine detail and is very well executed by the artist. The bronze has been signed by the artist "J L Clarke" as well as his Indian name "Cutapius" and is marked "A-C-F-A / 12-16-71 / Rutan-Tice Wilderness Collection 1-30". This is a RARE opportunity to own an original John L. Clarke bronze sculpture. The piece is in very good condition. The bronze sits a solid alder hardwood base with a brass placard that reads "Glacier Park Grizzly / Rutan-Tice Wilderness Collection / John L. Clarke (Cutapuis) 1881-1970". The sculpture measures 9.25" x 9.5" and is 14.25" tall.
