Available for public purchase is this true reservation period pipe tomahawk attributed to the Northern Plains region, likely Sioux in origin, and dated to circa 1890-1900. The turn of the century piece features a cast brass head being 6.75 inches in length and has a 16-inch-long beaded dangle drop attached. The solid wood haft is adorned with brass tacks along with a .22 caliber bullet cartridge at the back end as the smoking tip. This is truly a reservation Northern Plains family owned piece with small additions and changes being shown through the years. Total length is 17.25 inches. The beaded drop shows a sky padre blue background with geometric traditional pattern in a semi-transparent dark red glass trade seed beadwork. The tomahawk head shows a fine mellow original patina across the entire surface, a true sign of age. The brass tacks are possibly a later furniture tack addition.
