"I can’t explain why, but the words Out of the Woods immediately brought to mind an egg wrapped in a nest of leaves. The woods teem with activity, but I wanted to focus on an intimate view of developing life and create a scene of protection, comfort, and peace."

About the Artist:
Kristin LeVier is a sculptor who transforms wood, metal, and glass into contemporary organic sculpture inspired by the wonder of the natural world. She carves and bends rigid wood planks into tentacles and leaves that embody a sense of motion. Her work reflects her captivation with the many forms of beauty found in the nature, from subtle to fierce. Kristin’s work has been exhibited in museums and galleries across North America and in curated exhibits at SOFA Chicago, FORM MIAMI, the LA Art Show and juried shows such as Materials: Hard + Soft International Contemporary Craft Competition and Exhibition. Kristin was selected as a LEAP finalist by the Society for Contemporary Craft, a Business Accelerator Fellow of the Clark Hulings Fund, and a Spotlighted Artist by the American Association of Woodturners (AAW). In 2017 she was a NICHE Award finalist and received a POP Excellence award from the AAW. Her work has been featured in books and magazines such as American Craft and she was featured in a PBS short film. She teaches workshops on carving and sculpture across North America and at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Craft and the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship. Kristin started building furniture as a hobby 25 years ago and immediately loved the mixture of design freedom and precision. This passion for creating objects eventually led her to leave behind a career as a research molecular biologist to focus on making sculpture and teaching her craft. She lives in Moscow, Idaho, where she is inspired by nature in all its forms, the relationships between living creatures, snow and ice, and the beautiful rolling hills that surround her.
