Offered in this lot for auction is a Zapotec Native American Indian hand woven wool flat weave rug in the Navajo Native American Indian styling. The rug is crafted of 100% wool, and shows bright coloring, showing turquoise, green, soft orange and off-white. The rug is woven in repeating geometric pattern and shares many characteristics of a Navajo Chiefs Blanket. The rug has a thick border, and is set off with repeating geometric medallions. Overall, the rug shows good condition. The piece measures 95" x 66". The Zapotec Indians in Oaxaca, Mexico are a significant source of woven wool Indian rugs as they were taught same art of weaving as the Navajo Indians by Spanish Missionaries over 400 years ago. The piece has a retail value of over $3,000. The rug is in very good condition with a slight blemish on the left side third medallion from the bottom as seen on image number one (said to be easily removed).
