Provided for you in this lot is a folding souvenir hand fan from the Michael J. Connell Company in Butte, MT. Michael Connell arrived in Deer Lodge in 1875, and secured a position with the Bonner Mercantile Company, after his first year with the company, his business ability was proven to an extent in which he was given charge of the business, with one-third interest in profits. It was then when the Bonner Mercantile Company decided to open a location in the boom town of Butte, Montana. Michael Connell was sent to manage the business. After far exceeding the original stores profits, Michael Connell purchased his partners share, and changed the business name to the M.J. Connell Company in 1891. The facility was known to be the most well -stocked, and best all around facility West of Chicago. The store was the first in Montana to feature an elevator, and also had amenities such as electric lights, steam heat, and modern fire retardant systems. The fan reads top to bottom, and left to right; "Souvenir Fan - M-J-Connell Company - Butte, Montana - Every Article Guaranteed and money refunded if not satisfactory". The fan shows the fantastic M.J. Connell Company building on a tropical coast, and displays fantastic graphic, with vivid colors. The fan is in good condition, and shows only slight edge wear. The fan when fully opened measures 23 7/8" wide, and 13 3/8" tall.
