The lot features an excellent set of authentic fully top beaded moccasins from the Lakota Sioux Native American Indians of South Dakota dating to the third to fourth quarter of the 19th Century. The 1870-1890 moccasins show a museum quality condition and artisanship. The set shows an Indian tanned Great American Bison Buffalo hide construction with thick parfleche rawhide Buffalo hide soles and exquisite period correct authentic glass trade seed beadwork in a traditional geometric motif pattern with the desirable “Buffalo Track” symbol. Each moccasin shows the correct fully sinew sewn construction, a true sign of its early age. The moccasins show some of the finest geometric patterns currently available for public purchase. The entire set shows a nice mellow patina and are truly a rare 19th Century find. The 19th Century glass trade seed beads include such colors as chalk white, translucent pony trader sky blue, medium green, red white heart, translucent dark blue, and medium blue. The set shows a very fine museum quality condition with little to no bead loss and little tearing (the rear of the left moccasin shows a tear with repair and a tear on the inner foot). The Lakota Sioux also referred to as the Teton Lakhota Sioux are a Lakota Speaking people from the North Dakota, South Dakota and Southern Montana region. The Lakota Sioux are one of the most notable of the 19th Century tribe in North American Indian history with such notable person such as Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, Red Cloud, Black Elk and Spotted Tail. The moccasins measure 3.75" x 10.25". One of the finest early original sets of beaded moccasins we have offered for public sale.
