Italian snapphaunce pistol circa 18th century, 12” overall, 7” barrel of approx. .56 caliber smooth-bore. The lock is nicely chiseled with a face at its rear and on the hammer screw with some light border engraving and a cherub face on the butt. The condition is good with some minor pitting and erosion. The original top jaw, screw, and small parts are retained. The pistol is original overall. The left sideplate shows provisionsfor a belt hook which is missing. The stock is nicely carved in high relief and is in good condition. An original to the period ramrod is retained. The pistol may have been shortened slightly during its working life. A good example with a nice shield and crown inlaid at the wrist upon which the owner’s name or initials could have been inscribed. Est: $2,500 - $5,000
