Fine Cased Engraved Frederick Barnes Cooper Patent Double Action Pepperbox Pistol
This fine percussion pepperbox casehardened barrel cluster, niter blue ring trigger and under hammer and silver plated frame and buttcap. The frame, backstrap and buttcap are nicely floral scroll engraved. The left side of the frame is marked "F.B. BARNES & CO / LONDON / J.R. COOPERS PATENT" and each barrel flute is marked with a Birmingham proofmark at the breech end. Fitted with smooth two piece varnished walnut grips. Complete in a wooden case with a brass snow flake shaped brass inset and brass corner protectors on the lid, and brass reinforcement on the corners of the base. Green felt lining with affixed Fred Barnes & Co. paper label on the inside of the lid, six compartments, two with lids and ivory pulls, powder flask, bullet mold, round ivory container (part of the threaded area broken), six extra percussion nipples, tool and wooden handled cleaning/ramrod.

Condition: Fine. The barrels retain traces of the original case colors with some minor pitting on the breech end. Virtually all of the silver remains, beginning to age a bit, however remains bright. The trigger and hammer retain most of the bright original niter blue finish with areas of smooth silver gray. The grips are excellent with nearly all of the original varnish remaining and a few scattered minor dings and scratches. The engraving and markings are clear. The action is fine. The case is very good with some dings and scratches on the exterior and some minor contact wear and staining on the lining. The accessories are all good or better.
