Exceptional Rare WWII Inland Presentation M1 Carbine
This is an exceptional, all original and unaltered 'Presentation' M1 Carbine as manufactured by the General Motors Corp in the correct presentation "XC" prefix serial number block. During the later stages of WWII the General Motors/Inland Div. designated a specific serial number block of M1 carbines/receivers that were intended to be presented to senior members of the military as well as executives within the General Motors Corp. These carbine were all hand built from select parts and wood to make sure they not only looked good but functioned equally as well. It is estimated that 50-100 of these carbine were ever produced with any example being highly sought by advance collectors today. This carbine has the standard "U.S. CARBINE/M1" markings on the front receiver ring with the correct "INLAND DIV" and serial number on the rear ring. This M1 Carbine has the early style, hand stamped, larger letters and numbers typical of the early production carbine. The barrel is marked "INLAND MFG. DIV/GENERAL MOTORS" with NO barrel date of ordnance proofs, which is correct as these were not accepted by the military. It has the later style type three barrel band with the bayonet lug marked "AI" on the side, the late round blued bolt, marked "AI on the side of the lug, the late milled and adjustable rear sight, marked "PI", a late production M2 operating slide (correct for this time frame) marked "P" in a box inside the bottom of the slide, the correct late type four M2 trigger guard with the upside down "INLAND" marking with the correct "HI" marked hammer. It also has the earlier smooth push button safety and smooth face, "M" marked magazine catch. It also has the correct late M2 walnut stock marked with only the "IO" markings in the sling slot and a four rivet "IO" marked walnut handguard. It is complete with one blued magazine marked "SS" on the back side and one late WWII olive green sling with the correct "U" clips on the ends.
