Desirable set of dueling pistols cased with second's pistols by H. W. Mortimer. With trade label in lid stating 'Gunmaker to His Majesty / Late Partner and Successor to his Father who were appointed in the year 1783.89 Fleet St. London, fine gunpower, flints, patent shot, and etc. No Connection to Any Other House'. The dueling pistols measure 14" overall with 8-3/4" octagon barrels, approx. .52 caliber smoothbore, half stocks, eachsigned on lock and engraved "London" on the barrels. The pair are nicely stocked in walnut and checkered. The pair shows platinum bands, blowout plugs, and are in their original state with all original small parts. One ramrod tip is broken and contained within the case. The pair have considerable original brown finish, but unfortunately this set have suffered from poor storage after the passing of the collector who owned them.There is surface rust which we have attempted to clean, but it has bit in and eroded the metal. We were able to remove a great deal of the erosion, however a professional gunsmith is needed to painstakingly clean and sadly
