Colt SAA revolver, modified to .22 caliber (different barrel and cylinder) with top strap of frame removed, 7.5” barrel, old re-silvered finish, stag grips, S/N 222707; backstrap inscribed “James G. Davis”, inoverall good condition as reworked. In a modern (ca. 1960’s) wood case and a binder of information indicating J. Gunnis Davis (1873-1937) was an actor, director and writer who reportedly entered into films in 1912,appearing in numerous Western and murder movies during the silent film era. As noted above, he died in 1937 in Los Angeles, CA. An unsigned typed letter from an H.P. Smitt indicates Davis was part of the 101 Ranchgroup and followed Tom Mix to Hollywood. He further opines the gun was converted to .22 caliber and likely used by Davis as a prop gun. (C&R). Est.: $2,000-$4,000.
