Colt 1855 Side Hammer .28 Cal SN: 8675
'Model 2, Root' Cased single action spur trigger percussion revolver chambered for .28 caliber ammunition, manufactured circa 1856(second year production). Features a high polish blued finish, 3 1/2" octagonal barrel with pointing hand two line patent markings & address, loading lever, dovetailed brass blade front sight, 'v' notched rear sight, five-shot cylinder with roll stamped 'Cabin & Indian' scene, smooth spur trigger, side mounted hammer with knurled spur, and one-piece vanished walnut grip. Includes a custom wood presentation case with velvet lined & compartmentalized interior containing a cap box, powder flask & lead balls. All observed serial number match including the frame, cylinder and barrel. Revolver exhibits nearly 10% of it's original finish with traces of bright bluing retained in protected areas and the balance of the metal surfaces turned to an aged grey/brown patina. Markings are crisp and the cylinder scene is approximately 50% intact. Working the hammer does not rotate the cylinder but otherwise the action functions well, the bore is very good and wood grip is very good with some finish loss & dings. Condition is NRA Very Good in case. ***Antique Firearm***
