This lot features a Remington New Model Army .44 Caliber Percussion Civil War Revolver. This extremely accurate and finely made mainstay of the war was Colt’s stiffest competition for their Model 1860. Many officers, cavalry and foot soldiers preferred the Remington over the Colt because of the sturdy one piece frame with top strap that would never shoot loose. Because of their excellent reputation as reliable handguns, many of these sturdy and powerful revolvers found their way to the Western Frontier after the Civil War. It is interesting to note that the famous showman Buffalo Bill Cody carried a Remington New Model Army .44 from 1866 through the 1870s while buffalo hunting and partaking in the Indian Wars and famously claimed, “It never failed me.” This is a 8” octagon barrel with correct front sight and marked in three lines, “PATENTED SEPT.14, 1858” over “E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, NEW YORK, U.S.A.” over “NEW MODEL.” Correct brass trigger guard with all other steel parts aged to a natural deep and attractive patina. Excellent mechanics and functions fine, loading lever intact and functioning properly, lovely burl walnut grips. This revolver was manufactured in 1863-1875. NO FFL transfer or NICS background check required. The serial number is 66391
