This lot consists of two coffee table biographies of two famous Old West artists. The first is a very nice first edition copy of Larry Len Peterson's book on C.M. Russell, Charles M. Russell: Legacy Printed and Published Works of Montana's Cowboy Artist. What makes Peterson's book special is that it is the first major work on Russell to come out of Montana: It was published in 1999 by Falcon Publishing in Helena. This amply illustrated volume contains photographs, letters written by Russell, and of course Russell's paintings and drawings. The book is 438 pages, including the index; it measures 11.75" x 11.75". The book is in excellent used condition with the dust jacket having some minor rubbing and stains not affecting the book. The second volume is entitled George Catlin and the Old Frontier. It is "A Biography and Picture Gallery of the Dean of Indian Painters", written by Harold McCracken. The book, published in 1959, is a first edition after the limited edition of 250 copies. The book is in excellent used condition; the dust jacket has some rips, but is now protected by a clear plastic dust jacket. These books would look perfect on any coffee table--especially one in Montana!
