Cased Pair of Liege Proofed Engraved Percussion Pistols with Ivory Grips -A) Liege Proofed Percussion Muff Pistol

A) This lot consists of a matching pair of cased European engraved percussion pistols. The frame, hammer and folding trigger feature a broad floral pattern engraving. A game bird is engraved on the left side of the frame. This is a unique bird game engraving in that the bird is engraved horizontal to the barrel. A Liege proof is stamped on the left side of the barrel at the breech and the number "372" is on the barrel underside at the breech. The pistol is equipped with fixed sights and a rifled barrel. The one piece ivory grip has an engraved steel cap. With the pair of pistols is a partitioned case lined in red velvet. The lid has a blank initial bone plaque and the lock has a bone escutcheon

Very good. The pistol has a mottled gray patina with some very light pin point pitting. The hammer screw head retains most of the original niter blue finish. The grip is good with a few age cracks and limited chipping. The ivory is taking on an attractive age color and the number "1946" is marked near the lower frame tang. The engraving is crisp. Mechanically fine. The relined case is very good with some missing vernier and a split on the bottom.
