1927 NY Yankees Team Signed Baseball (World Champions) (JSA)
One of the most storied teams in the history of baseball and arguably the greatest team to ever take the field, the 1927 Yankees roster featured an unprecedented roster of six Hall of Famers: Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, Hoyt, Combs and Pennock. Known as "Murderer's Row," six Yankees batted over .300 that year: Gehrig (.373), Ruth, Lazzeri, Combs, Meusel and Paschal. Winning 110 games, a record setting performance at the time, they went on to beat the Pirates 4-0 in the World Series. 1927 is also the year that Babe Ruth hit 60 home runs, a record that would last for decades before Roger Maris hit 61 in 1961. Just think that in 1909, Ty Cobb had led the A.L. in home runs with a whopping total of nine! A true delight in the realm of team signed baseballs and one of the most highly sought after, this red and blue stitched No. 65 League Special baseball has been signed in blue and black fountain pen by 16 members of the legendary squad. Signatures include Babe Ruth on the sweet spot, Lou Gehrig, Dutch Ruether, Herb Pennock, Miller Huggins, Pat Collins, Ben Paschal, Johnny Grabowski and several others. Written on the bottom panel is "27 New York Yankees," unknown hand. Ball is toned with some spotting and light soiling, signatures are generally light and average a grade of 3 to 4, with the Ruth and Gehrig grading a 5 to 6. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
